A Cup of Coffee and God's Letter to Me

I've been up for a couple of hours today.  I've taken Ben to meet his ride, gone to Walmart to buy a few more groceries. Now I am finishing my cup of coffee (2nd cup actually) and reading God's Letter to Me.

Today, He used the book of Isaiah to speak loudly!

(If you haven't caught on from past posts--I'm reading through Isaiah now.)

Look at what He wrote me today . . .

"But now, listen to me, Julie my servant,  Julie my chosen one.  The Lord who made you and helps you says:  O Julie, my servant, do not be afraid.  O Julie, my chosen one, do not fear.  For I will give you abundant water to quench your thirst and to moisten your parched fields.  And I will pour out my Spirit and blessings on your children.  They will thrive like watered grass, like willows on a riverbank.  Some will proudly claim, " I belong to the Lord."  Others will say, "I am a descendant of Jacob."  Some will write the Lord's name on their hands and will take the honored name of Israel as their own. Isaiah 44: 1 - 5 (Ok--so I added my name where Israel's and Jacob's should be, but it helps me to take his words to heart.)

This amazing letter goes on to remind me of who God is--He is the First and the Last; there is no other God.  He tells me that He is the only one who knows the future and that he knows my purpose.

He then explains about the foolishness of mankind with making Idols.  I was reading these and even catching myself chuckling at how foolish his children must seem when we put our faith in our Idols.

Then I had a moment of clarity.  I spent yesterday in a halfway funk.  I wasted about half of my day on my Idol the computer--looking for an email about an update on our adoption.  Busted!

I was trusting in this manmade Idol for information that God has promised me a bazillion times--that "It will be in His time."

Aren't you tired of reading about me having peace about it and then me trying to make something happen?

How come I live in this perpetual cycle of peace, worry, peace, worry, peace???---You get the idea.

Thankfully, His letter in verse 21 goes on to say, " Pay attention, O Julie, for you are my servant.  I, the Lord, made you, and I will not forget to help you.  I have swept away your sins like the morning mists.  I have scattered your offenses like the clouds.  Oh, return to me, for I have paid the price to set you free."

Thank you God!

Is there any better feeling than to know that God will create a clean heart in you everytime you mess up?

So, today I'm looking out my window and thankful that my sins are swept away like the morning mist.  Gone and out of sight.

Have you had a chance to read God's letter to you today?  If not, go read it and be amazed at how it applies to your life.

Oh, and the cup of coffee make it just that much sweeter. :)

Julie

Oh, Julie, I almost think you were writing about me! ;) We have the same idol at times, the same funk, the same cycle of peace and worry. And, I've just finished the book of Isaiah. I think I need to read it again!
